New Slice of Anna Maria History Gets Underway
Mike and Lizzie Thrasher, owners of Pineapplefish Luxury Vacation Villas, Beach Bums and the Anna Maria General Store, are continuing with their revitalization of historic Pine Avenue in the City of Anna Maria. The Thrashers have broken ground on The Anna Maria Historic Green Village, an 8,000-square-foot development encouraging visitors to travel the Avenue by foot, with the majority of the Village scheduled to open in time for the Anna Maria Pier Centennial next spring. The planned development is to include retail and professional space, a café, art gallery, beautiful gardens, public facilities, and three recycled historic buildings, including a 1935 Sears Catalog Cottage and two other structures built in 1911 and 1915. The entire project will mirror the historic structures in both scale and style, but with modern improvements. Most notably, the Village will be powered by solar and green technology, including ground-source heat pumps and photovoltaic electricity.
