Meet Our Agri-Tourism Expert
We asked Janet Mixon, owner of Mixon Fruit Farms in Bradenton, for tips on incorporating agriculture into your next vacation.

Making Agri-Tourism Fun

While a Florida beach vacation might be your reason for visiting the Bradenton area, head to our mainland areas to experience a bit of what Old Florida is all about. Several local farms have incorporated tourism elements to give families who may not otherwise visit a farm a chance to experience agriculture up close and personally. Mixon's working farm offers visitors tours of the groves, the opportunity to order and ship fresh Florida citrus, and unique viewing opportunities with its butterfly gardens and wildlife refuge. It's also home to The Deli and a gift shop featuring fudge and Florida wines.

Dakin Dairy Farms in Myakka City offers visitors the unique opportunity to purchase local farm-fresh milk and witness the entire process, from milking their 1,400 Holstein cows to bottling at their Milk Plant. Visitors can also enjoy hayride tours of the farm and explore the corn maze. Make sure to check with the farm for specific seasonal tours, dates and times.
