Going green is more than just a catchphrase in Lakewood Ranch – it's a way of living. In fact, Lakewood Ranch is the largest green-certified community in the United States.
Green Golf
The greens are, well, green around here. The Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. Throughout the course are nesting boxes, bird feeders – even a butterfly garden area. Dozens of animals can be seen on the course from time to time: red foxes, great white heron, pelicans, alligator, turtles and more.
Green Preserves
Lakewood Ranch has 685 acres of conservation areas, 91 acres of nature parks and 20 miles of soft-path nature trails with bridges over rivers and creeks to connect the communities. Throughout the communities, you'll see ponds, beautiful recreation parks, walking trails and canopied green spaces.
Green Homes
Since 2005, the homes in the area have been built with such care that they all meet the Florida Green Building Coalition's Green Home Standard. This translates into more environmentally conscientious homes, as well as more efficient structures for residents.
Green Standards
All around Lakewood Ranch, indigenous plants and reclaimed irrigation water keep the impact on natural resources to a minimum. Areas that are mined for shell and sand are then filled as lakes for boating, fishing or simply viewing. Walking paths are paved around nature, not over it.
