Ride Horseback on the Beach
Ride horseback on the beach . . . and in the water.
Ride horseback on the beach . . . and in the water.
Horse surfing started right here in Palma Sola Bay.

Tim Mattox of Beach Horses (www.beachhorses.com; 941-907-7272) and his guides lead you on a sunset horseback ride along a palm-lined stretch of beach at Palma Sola Bay. As the sun’s orange orb turns the sand a sparkling silver, you head back – and then the excitement ratchets up a notch, as your horse wades into the surf!

So, it’s the horse who’s surfing, not you. Mattox tells people to hold onto the mane and enjoy the ride. Most kids love to try; grownups can be neigh-sayers at first but soon come to love it.

Mattox says you don’t have to be an equestrian to participate, and kids as young as age 3 are welcome.
